Grenadier Fish

One Ugly Fish

This fish is very peculiar looking with its big mouth and scaly skin, it’ll really make you run for the hills! This species is usually found living just above the bottom of the ocean. They swim slowly over the sea bed searching for live prey, as well as carcasses to eat. They also have really high levels of the smelly chemical compound TMAO, which not only makes them really ugly, but really smelly too!

    I sure hope they don’t start making fish sandwiches out of Grenadier Fish, or I won’t eat any kind of fish anymore! Since this thing is so ugly and smelly, does anybody eat this?

    We bought some grenadier fish filets at a seafood place near Monterey, California on the basis of the recommendation of the guy behind the couonter. It was absolutely delicious! My wife said “I have a new favorite fish!” Give it a try!

    I think you got a mixture of fish there. The one on the lower left is a Blob Fish and the left looks like a much smaller deep sea eel like fish.
